Hemp flour is a product obtained from defatted, finely ground hemp seeds for sowing. It contains large amounts of protein and valuable minerals. It is, however, gluten-free. It stands out for its dark, slightly green color and nutty-sunflower flavor. Dishes prepared with hemp flour are nutritious and easily digestible, and introducing it into your daily diet is a good way to support your body and provide it with valuable nutrients. What else is worth knowing about hemp flour?
Hemp flour – composition
Hemp flour has a low glycemic index. The product contains many amino acids essential for life, including tryptophan, leucine, lysine and phenylalanine, which the body is not able to produce on its own. Hemp flour is also an excellent source of unsaturated fatty acids from the omega-3 and omega-6 groups. It also provides B vitamins, vitamin E and minerals such as phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, potassium and iron. Ground hemp seeds also contain dietary fiber.
Hemp flour – properties
Hemp flour allows you to prepare filling treats that are valuable for the body. Unlike most other popular flours, it is also characterized by a high content of polyphenolic compounds.
Hemp flour – uses
Hemp flour is easily digestible while also being filling. It has a characteristic color and flavor. What can it be used for? Hemp flour is suitable primarily for all types of baked goods. It's worth using it to bake bread, cakes, muffins or pancakes. It should be remembered that hemp flour does not increase the volume of baked goods, so if you want to use it for fluffy cakes, it will be necessary to mix it with another flour, for example wheat flour. The simplest way to combine hemp flour with regular flour is to replace 10–15% of the required amount in the recipe with it. Gluten-free hemp seed flour also has a different consistency and stickiness, which means it cannot be rolled out. Initially, baking with this product often turns out to be quite troublesome. It is also worth knowing that hemp flour can be eaten raw, so to include it in your daily diet you do not need to heat-treat it. You can therefore safely add the product to smoothies, cottage cheese, oatmeal or yogurt. It may also be beneficial to replace flour typically used for thickening soups and sauces or for breading fish and meat with hemp flour.
Hemp flour vs wheat flour
